Kaplan Higher Education Renames All California Schools Maric College

Expansion Creates One of California’s Largest Proprietary School Networks

San Diego, CA, May 10, 2004 – As part of its expansion of higher education schools in California, Kaplan Higher Education has renamed all of its proprietary career colleges in the state Maric College.  This transition makes the Maric Colleges, with 15 campuses, one of the largest groups of private institutions offering associate degrees and certificates in the state.

Schools joining the Maric College network include:

    • CEI College, Anaheim
    • CEI College, Panorama City
    • CEI, Lake Forest
    • CEI, Pomona
    • CEI, Los Angeles
    • CEI, Irwindale
    • CEI, Carson
    • CEI, Riverside
    • CEI, San Diego
    • California College, Modesto
    • California College, Sacramento
    • California College, Stockton
    • Modern Technology College, North Hollywood

Maric College, with two original campuses in the San Diego area, has long been recognized as one of California’s leading career schools.  All Maric College campuses were acquired by Kaplan at various points during the last 15 years.  Each school will maintain its existing accreditation.

“This move reflects our continued commitment to invest in the expansion of programs, course offerings and services at all of our Maric College campuses,” said Jim Haga, Vice President of Operations for Kaplan Higher Education.  “Additionally, I think our students will benefit from the strength of the Maric name as the school continues to grow.”

By the end of 2004, three new Maric Colleges will open in Palm Springs, Bakersfield, and Fresno, giving the colleges an even greater presence in California.

For more than 25 years, Maric College has enabled students to develop and achieve their personal and career goals by providing study opportunities that integrate general education, professional skills, and career-focused training.  Today, the school offers a breadth of programs in allied health, information technology, and legal studies.

The school’s original San Diego and North County campuses provide students with a variety of programs, including associate degrees in Network Engineering Technology and Paralegal Studies, as well as certificates ranging from Computer Network Engineering to Medical Insurance Technician to Network Cabling Specialist.  Both campuses offer a Vocational Nursing program, which prepares graduates for the national Vocational Nurse licensing exam.  Maric College, San Diego Campus is the only proprietary school in California to award the associate degree in Nursing, which prepares graduates to take the national exam for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
