Hesser College Receives Bid to USCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Tournament

Two Freshman Selected to All-America Team

MANCHESTER, N.H., Feb. 28, 2008The Hesser College men’s basketball team has received an official bid to the 2008 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship. The tournament, to be held at Southern Maine Community College, began Feb. 27 and will conclude on March 1. Hesser’s first game in the tournament will be today at 4:30 p.m. against Williamson Trade.

This will be Hesser’s fifth consecutive appearance in the USCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Tournament. Hesser College is seeded number five for the start of this year’s tournament and finished third in last year’s tournament.

Two freshmen on Hesser’s team made this year’s USCAA Division II Men’s Basketball All-America team. Only ten players from across the county are selected as All-American. Kendall Walker, of New Haven, Conn., is ranked number one in double-doubles and top five in five other categories including field goal percentage, offensive/defensive rebounds, rebound average and blocked shots. Chris Murrell, also from New Haven, Conn., is ranked in the top five for defensive rebounds and double-doubles. Both made the Yankee Small College Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team this year and Walker was named conference player of the year.

I am very pleased with the season we have had and the progress we made,” said Ralph Wade, Hesser College men’s basketball coach and athletic director.  “I ask a lot from them and they have delivered. With two highly regarded freshmen leading the way, I fully expect us to challenge for the USCAA title.”

Hesser College will play Williamson Trade at 4:30 p.m. today. The game will be broadcast live at http://www.sopmedia.net/soptv/live/remote1.html.
